Breast cancer affects more than 200,000 women all over the world every year. If you are lucky enough to get your diagnosis at an early stage, chances are good that it won’t be life threatening, and your chance of remission is high. All over the globe research is being done to try and rid the world of this deadly disease, and save as many lives as possible. Breast cancer has been around for many years, but it wasn’t until women started hearing about the importance of early detection and self-exams that they became empowered to do something about it.
Medical researchers are working every day to come up with new and improved ways of attacking this disease, and trying to find a cure. There have been great strides in breast cancer awareness, and people want to know what they can do to help. Here are a few ways to get involved in funding the research that is so desperately needed.
Donate
When you thing of supporting breast cancer, automatically you will probably start to see pink. Bright pink ribbons are the symbol for breast cancer, and there are organizations that design products with these designs to help fund research. You can donate money to these foundations or you can even create your own pink items to sell and donate the profits.
If you already have your own business and sell products, you can alter some of your items by adding the pink ribbons, and that way everyone will know what they are supporting when they purchase them.
Volunteer Your Time
Every year there are races for the cure that happen in all major U.S. cities. Runners get friends and family to sponsor them for the race, and then the proceeds are donated to fund research. When you participate in one of these races, you are helping to spread the word, as well as supporting a very worthy cause. If you aren’t a runner, you can still volunteer your time to help the cause. Many organizations rely heavily on volunteers to make events possible, and they could always use a helping hand.
One last very important way to help is by participating in research studies if you have had cancer, or it runs in your family. There are many groups out there that are looking for people to participate in studies to get a better grasp of how the illness works. Volunteer to participate if you can.
